Admit you got it wrong...

My sources tell me that Jason Leopold is close to being indicted, and has been involved heavily in a collapsing company that brokers energy. I'm not sure what the financial details are, but I have an email here somewhere that proves it...no...I swear...

And in case you can't tell, I'm being facetious, I'm kidding folks.

It's unfortunate that the press isn't filled with more people who can stand up to the rigors and demands of the job of, oh I don't know, being honest. While I don't know my AP style book as well as I did in undergrad, I'm pretty sure it's not the most difficult job in the world to make some calls, do some interviews, put together an accurate description of events and then write intelligently about said events.

I also find it funny that Leopold wouldn't simply address his errors and move on. If he loves journalism so much, and finds it such an honorable profession, wouldn't it make sense for him to do his best to admit his mistakes in all of what's happened? There seems to be no deep throat, there seems to be plenty of wishful thinking (I can't think of a single intelligent, insightful, benevolent person who didn't hope Karl Rove was getting indicted) but it was just false reporting. C'mon, journalism is about giving the truth, and even if you screwed up, lock up the hubris for another time, admit your mistakes and move on.

Don't Leopold it!

I think you've coined a great phrase. All J schools should use "Don't Leopold It!!"
